US Raw Steel Production Plummets to 1,639,000 Short Tons

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by 12.3% to 1,639,000 short tons at the end of 21th March, while the capability utilization rate was 69.3 percent.

Raw steel production was 1,868,000 short tons at the end of 21th March, while the capability utilization was 77.7 percent in 2014.

Production for the week ended March 21, 2015 is up 1.0 percent from the previous week ended March 14, 2015 when production was 1,623,000 short tons and the rate of capability utilization was 68.7 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through 21th March, 2015 was 19,917,000 short tons, at a capability utilization rate of 73.7 percent. Which is down 5.1 percent from the 20,980,000 short tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.1 percent.
