Turkish Steel Export Dropped Slightly in April


According to Turkish Steel Exporters Union (CIB), the country’s steel export dropped slightly in April 2015, which was 1.6 million tons, lower by 0.7% compared with the exports in April 2014. The steel export generated total revenue of $987 million in the month, falling by 17.8% year-on-year.

The cumulative steel export of Turkey in the first four months of the year was 5.8 million tons, down 6.9% year-on-year. The revenue generated from steel export dropped by 19.8% to $3.7 billion during this period.

Meanwhile, the latest available data in March indicates that the country’s steel import surged by 37.3% year-on-year. The data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers Association (TCUD) shows that steel import by the country totaled 1.58 million tons in March 2015.

The import of billets increased by 252.2% to 260,000 tons in March. The bloom import by the country up 7.9% year-on-year at 16,000 tons. The steel plate import have been higher by 10.6% during March 2014 to 178,000 tons. Also, import of flat steel products in Turkey totaled 775,000 tons, 32.8% higher compared with March 2014.
